Greyhound Placement
Agencies
Thinking of adopting a greyhound? Live in or around New
England?
Greyhound Placement
Service of New Hampshire -- I'm quite partial to "Team
GPS". Michele is a straight shooter and works HARD for
those dogs. There's an excellent "support group" of
volunteers/adopters too, from all walks of the Adopted
Greyhound world. Couch potatos, obedience, agility, racing,
parades, meet n greets, you name it, Team GPS does
it.
Greyhound Friends
(Hopkington, MA)-- a long time adoption kennel always
with plenty of dogs to choose from. Located in Southeastern
MA. They've been around a long time and have affiliates in
N. Carolina and, I believe, New York. Check 'em
out.
Sighthound Performance
Organizations
Got Sighthound? Want to get off the couch and onto the
field? Look no further. There's PLENTY to do!
Large Gazehound Racing
Association -- Drag Racing for dogs. Straight track,
200 yards, squeaky lure.
National Oval Track Racing
Association -- Oval track racing, for all sighthounds.
The dogs chase a non-squeaky lure (white plastic, like a
trash bag) around turns, anything from a 270 yard U-val, to
a 440 yard oval.
American Sighthound Field
Association -- Lure Coursing (or "LC"), for all
sighthound breeds. Lure coursing is meant to roughly
approximate the sighthound's original purpose -- chasing
live, zig zagging game, all without having to find that
live, zig-zagging game.
National and Regional Breed
Clubs
Here's a listing of some sighthound breed clubs.
Borzoi Club
of America -- check out their
photo of the week for some good shots of 'zois doing what
'zois do.
National Greyhound
Association -- the racing greyhound registry.
Dog Essentials
Handy dog links around the Web.
PetsWelcome.com--
Travelling? Trying to find a pet-friendly establishment?
This site, though perhaps not totally up to date, was very
handy to find motels and hotels that would accept our dogs
while we were on the road.
dogpark.com -- another
site that may not be updated as often as I'd like to see it
updated, but still valuable. We use it to find dog parks
near places we plan to travel to. Always handy to
bring a list along, so Fido can stretch his legs, too. I
(heart) dog parks...
